This guide describes how to use display on Radxa Zero.

HDMI Display

Most HDMI display works out of the box.

Specify HDMI Resolution (For example: 1280x720)

Here default resolution is 1920x1080. Now we change it to 1280x720.

Step 1: Check supported resolution.

rock@radxa-zero:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 3840 x 2160
HDMI-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm
   1920x1080 60.00* 50.00 59.94
   1920x1080i 60.00 50.00 59.94
   1680x1050 59.88
   1280x1024 75.02 60.02
   1440x900 59.90
   1280x960 60.00
   1280x720 60.00 50.00 59.94
   1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00
   832x624 74.55
   800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 56.25
   720x576 50.00
   720x480 59.94
   640x480 75.00 72.81 66.67

Step 2: Get 1280x720 modeline

rock@radxa-zero:~$ cvt 1280 720
# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

Step 3: Create file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-modesetting.conf including the following content. We get modeline in step 2.

rock@radxa-zero:~$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-modesetting.conf
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "HDMI-1"
        Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
        Option "PreferredMode" "1280x720_60.00"
EndSection

Step 4: Reboot Radxa Zero and check the resolution.

rock@radxa-zero:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 720, maximum 3840 x 2160
HDMI-1 connected primary 1280x720+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm
   1280x720_60.00 59.86*+
   1920x1080 60.00 50.00 59.94
   1920x1080i 60.00 50.00 59.94
   1680x1050 59.88
   1280x1024 75.02 60.02
   1440x900 59.90
   1280x960 60.00
   1280x720 60.00 50.00 59.94
   1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00
   832x624 74.55
   800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 56.25
   720x576 50.00
   720x480 59.94
