How to upgrade Rock 5B Debian 12 Bookworm
This guide describes, how to upgrade to Debian 12 Bookworm with the Rock 5B, as there exists currently no official Debian 12 image for the Rock 5B | ROCK 5 Official Images.
Requirement
It's necessary to run Debian 11 bullseye on the Rock 5B.
Procedure
To upgrade Debian 11 (bullseye) to Debian 12 (bookworm) read this guide Chapter 4. Upgrades from Debian 11 (bullseye) from the Debian team. Follow the instructions up to chapter 4.8. Obsolete packages. Please note the following information.
Chapter 4.3. Preparing APT source-list files
Before executing this chapter, all programs that are not part of a pure Debian 11 (bullseye) installation should be uninstalled apt remove
. After that, according to the instructions, all sources must be changed from "bullseye" to "bookworm", other source-list files must be removed.
Chapter | 4.4.6. Upgrading the system
After successfully executing chapter | 4.4.6. Upgrading the system and successfully restarting the Rock 5B, an error might occurr: no window has the ability to resize, move or close.
Continue following the instructions until you successfully execute chapter | 4.8. Obsolete packages and after successfully reboot Rock 5B, Debian 12 bookworm works fine.
Now Debian 12 bookworm runs on the Rock 5B. 😉
Next all additional installations, that where removed before chapter 4.3. Preparing APT source-list files, can be now reinstalled.
